Experience Art and Architecture at The Manor Apartment Hotel
This collection of paintings was put together out of a passion for Australia’s contemporary indigenous art. We have the world’s oldest surviving people and yet they are producing some of the most contemporary art in the world.Using traditional techniques of dot painting and geometric abstraction which are typical of Central Australian artists they have created colourful and powerful paintings which look very modern and at the same time provide insight into the ancient landscape and culture of Australia’s Aboriginals.
Most of the paintings come from the Central and Western Deserts in isolated communities dotted around a 500km radius from Alice Springs and Uluru. Some are produced by people like the Tjapaltjarri brothers who were part of the ‘lost tribe’ who emerged from the desert in the 1980s without previously having had any contact with Western society.
“Even though most of the work was created by proud desert people sitting on their native ground applying paint to canvas by brush, stick and hand, those finished canvases look right at home on walls of contemporary galleries, museums, offices and private homes all around the world”
- David Hinchliffe, Renowned Brisbane Artist
